SUMMARY

I. Introduction

  1. The Chairman Emil Sutovsky welcomes the new elected members
  2. Everybody introduces him/herself.

II. GSC Chairman reports

Emil Sutovsky reports on his current activities. The most of efforts go to find an Organiser for the next World Championship Match to be held in April 2023. Currently, we’ve been working with two potential Organisers: one in Mexico, the other one is a well-known event agency.

The majority of top-level events 2023 seems to be already settled.

III. Qualification for the Candidates Tournament 2024

The following system of distribution of eight qualification spots is proposed by Emil:

  • World Championship Match 2023 – 1 spot (Runner-up)
  • World Cup 2023 – 3 spots
  • Grand Swiss 2023 – 2 spots
  • By Rating – 1 spot
  • World Top Events – 1 spot

World Top Events is a new circuit which is supposed to be launched in 2023. The most important RR tournaments, as well as the strongest opens shall be included in the circuit.

Technical details are still to be developed.

The following ideas related to the new circuit have been aired and discussed:

  • inclusion of top rapid events (like R&B)
  • “giving a chance” to strongest young players
  • conducting polls among top players in order to work out technical details

IV. Attracting attention to women chess

The numbers of spectators on major Internet platforms show the huge gap of interest between open and women Candidates tournaments.

Emil comes up with the idea of holding the open and women Candidates (and eventually other top events) together. In order to diminish the gap and promote women chess, commentators shall be instructed to devote about 25% of broadcast time to the women event.

The idea is supported by the majority of present members.

Another idea was to have a women event right before an open one (like in Tata India).
